What is a Kettlebell? -The Kettlebell looks like a bowling ball with a tea kettle handle on the top.  Generally they are made of cast iron, but today you can find many different colors, and finishes.

Kettlebells are originally said to be used as weights for balance scales in markets where the vendor were weighing large product like beef, and bulk grain. There are unconfirmed Russian stories that, the farmers using these kettlebells in the market, started to juggle the kettlebells, and use them to compare strength.  What ever story maybe true, the Russian government did produce mass quantities of the kettlebell and created mandated group workouts for military and civilians.

Why are Kettlebell workouts different from traditional workouts with weights? Majority of Kettlebell exercises are quick movements.  This is the opposite of controlled tempo training that we see in health clubs that utilize machines designed to train specific body parts or muscle groups.  Kettlebell exercises require the whole body and all its muscle groups to contract in sequence.  These movements create momentum to move the kettlebell.  These types of movements rely heavily on core muscles and joint stabilizer muscles.

What results can you expect from Kettlebell training? Training with a kettlebell can develop muscle strength, muscle endurance, and speed of muscle contraction.  In terms of most exercise enthusiasts, Kettlebells can develop muscle tone and size, and cardio capacity.

Who is Kettlebell for? This type of training is for anyone who is interested in conditioning for recreational or organized sports.  For anyone that is missing full body conditioning movements from their routines.  For anyone that has a plateau in their routine, or looking for a kick ass workout in a class format.

Who is Kettlebell not ideal for? Some people may have severe range of motion restrictions, due to surgery or injury.  Typically if a person has been cleared by their doctor to workout using dumbbells and machines in a gym, then they could do kettlebell.  If you are not sure, one of our trainers will prequalify you for class.
